Surrounded by the love of his sisters, Bob passed away peacefully on Jan 20th 2024 at the MacGregor Personal Care Home.
Bob was born in Fox Memorial Hospital in Carberry July 15,1953 the son of George and Mae Butterfield.
He received his education in MacGregor Elementary and High School.
After leaving school he began farming with his parents on the home farm in the Emmeline S.D.
Over the years he transitioned into raising feeder cattle and continued to live on the home farm. During this time, he also was employed by Emmeline Farms. He really enjoyed working for, and the company of the Sims family,
Every summer Bob enjoyed volunteering at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum, particularly with Bob Anderson on the sawmill.
Bob lived with Parkinson’s disease for many years and had to retire from farming in Sept 2013.
When leaving the farm, he moved to Lions Manor and lived there until moving into the MacGregor Personal Care Home in fall 2015. which he grew to regard as home. His family is grateful for the compassionate care and friendship he received while living there.
Bob’s family was important to him, particularly his nieces and nephews. He was always interested in what they were doing and proud of what they accomplished In later years he enjoyed knowing his great nieces and nephews and could usually tell you how old they were and loved to treat them to ice cream when they visited.
He liked going out for coffee or a meal with friends or family. His favourite haunts were Gladstone Auction Mart, Hilltop Café or Phil’s Fine Foods in Austin.;
In later years he enjoyed the fellowship he had with the United Church and appreciated the opportunity to attend services.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Colin, Sister Val and great niece Samantha.
He is survived by his siblings Hazel (Terry), Bev, Don (Marion) and twelve nieces and nephews as well as eighteen great nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service in the MacGregor United Church Apr 13,2024 at 2pm followed by a luncheon in the MacGregor Community Hall
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to MacGregor Personal Care Home Activity Fund or MacGregor United Church
