Elinor Shaw Obituary

Elinor Mary Shaw with family by her side passed away on September 17th 2019 after a lengthy illness at Portage General Hospital.

Elinor was born in Hamiota, Manitoba on May 5th 1943 as the youngest daughter of George and Ada Baxter.

Family was at the core of everything for Elinor.  She was deeply invested in family activities from a young age and had many happy memories involving her parents, brother Jim, sister Eva and her many aunts, uncles and cousins. It gave her memories that she was able to cherish and share throughout her life.

She began her own family when she married Clifford Shaw of Hamiota, in 1962. They would begin their life together with a move to Norquay, Saskatchewan. The move was shortly followed with the births of their two children. First, was daughter Debbie in 1963, and then came son Brad in 1965. The young family would move again to Whitewood Saskatchewan before truly putting down roots with a move to MacGregor, Manitoba in 1967.

Elinor loved to sew. So much so, that she began working as a seamstress in MacGregor while her children were in school.  It was common place for her to make clothing for the family to wear, sometimes much to the a chagrin of her kids, yet each outfit was worn with love and sometimes later even remembered with a chuckle depending on the fashion of the time.

Elinor would find another passion, nursing, and would go on to attain her Health Care Aide while at MacGregor Hospital and work there until she returned to school at ACC in 1980 to pursue her LPN. After achieving her LPN nursing she would return to MacGregor Hospital and continue there through its transition into solely a care home facility and then on until her retirement in 1999.

Grandparent was a title that she relished. She held all her grandchildren close to her heart and would think of them daily.  She enjoyed passing down stories, anecdotes, catch phrases and sometimes even a few of her "benefits of experience" to grandchildren Kyle, Michael, Danielle, Melissa, Chelsea and then even a great grandchild Darla. Each grandchild had their own special relationship with her and with that a special piece of her heart.

She was predeceased by her parents George and Ada; her sister Eva and her husband Cliff.

She will be missed by her children Debbie (Jim), Brad (Brenda) and Kyle; grandchildren Michael, Danielle, Melissa (Eric), and Chelsea and great granddaughter Darla; brother Jim (Lynne) and many nieces and nephews.
