Frederick William Lewis “Fred” passed away peacefully at Third Crossing Manor on July 27, 2019 with family at his side.
Dad was born on May 2, 1923 in Flintshire, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1926 with his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Lewis and his older brother Ben. They settled in the Golden Stream District where Ben and Fred received their education. In 1950, Dad married Maisie Williams of Elkhorn. They raised 3 children, Carol, Eleanor and Ken. Dad farmed most of his working life at Reston and Golden Stream. He retired from farming in 1977 when Ken took over the farm. After farming, Dad worked for CCIL for a few years. He worked at the school bus garage in Austin as a mechanic and later he drove a school bus until his retirement in 1988.
Dad was an active member of the United Church, serving on the Steward and Session boards in both Reston and Gladstone. He also assisted with locating workers for the gate at the Austin Thresherman’s Reunion, as well as for the Gladstone fair. He and Mom enjoyed square dancing for many years and made many friends. They travelled to many destinations for square dancing and enjoyed many other travels as well. Dad enjoyed family get-togethers and time spent with grandchildren. He loved music and appreciated the musical performances at the Care Home.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Maisie; his brother, Bennett and his parents Albert & Elizabeth; in-laws Fred & Daisy Williams; sisters-and-brothers in-law, Gordon Williams, Freda & Wes Nelson, Russell & Grace Strath. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Carol (Bill) Main, Eleanor (Doug) Harrison and Ken (Nancy) Lewis; grandchildren, Kim (Erik) Dickson, Scott (Hayley) Main, Sharla (Bryan) Zelmer, Melanie Harrison (Ryan Boehmer), Andrew (Kendell) Lewis, and Karleigh Lewis (Jesse Thies); and his great grandchildren, Evelyn and Nathan Dickson; Norah, Bodhi and Clark Main; Kieryn Zelmer; Rylan, Zachary and Zoey Boehmer; Liam and Summer Thies.
