Harold Radford Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Radford, 83, on November 4, 2019 at Portage hospital with his daughter Barbara by his side.  He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Barbara (Mark), son Mark (Val), two grandchildren Brandon (Vanessa) and Kelsey and great grandchild Jax.  Predeceased by infant daughter Brenda.

Harold was born April 9, 1936 to parents Herbert and Evelyn Radford.  He was raised on the family farm in MacGregor, MB along with his 4 brothers and 5 sisters.  It was there where he developed his strong work ethic and first discovered carpentry, which became his lifelong passion.  In 1962 he married his wife Betty and spent 57 years together until his passing.  After the birth of their first child Barbara in 1963 they moved to Winnipeg where Harold spent the majority of his life working in the construction industry.  Their second child Mark was born in 1967.  Harold passed on his passion of construction to his son Mark and they worked together for 25 years framing houses until Harold retired at the age of 74.   Harold’s grandson Brandon is also following in his footsteps framing houses.

Harold had many interests during his life along with his love of carpentry.  He enjoyed the many camping trips with his wife and children and later in life with his grandchildren.   He had a love of music and as a self-taught guitar player, loved to play and sing with friends and family.  He always enjoyed talking to people and was blessed with a quick wit and friendly smile for all he met.

There were a few moves over his life including 5 years back in MacGregor where he worked as the ice maker at the Recreation Centre.  He really enjoyed this time as he was able to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones.  They eventually settled in Portage with Harold commuting to Winnipeg daily for work.

Harold’s latter years were spent doing woodworking projects in his garage, little projects around home, reading, or visiting with friends.  He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and passed along his love of playing cards to them.  He especially enjoyed his visits with his great grandchild Jax.
