Harvey Lloyd Walker

April 12, 1942 ~ June 22, 2010 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Harvey Lloyd Walker

Harvey passed away at his house on June 22, 2010.  He was born on April 12, 1942 in the Tupper District of Plumas, Manitoba, to Charlie and Martha Walker.  He attended West Tupper and Plumas Schools.  Upon graduation, he attended the Manitoba Teachers’ College in Tuxedo, Winnipeg.
Harvey enjoyed a 41-year teaching and sometimes principal career at the following schools:  Golden Stream, Union, Kelwood, McCreary, Alonsa, Robertson Hutterite, Grass River Hutterite, and Parkview Hutterite.  His extensive travel and geography background often made colourful additions to any textbook teaching that was done in the classroom.  He enjoyed interacting with young people and was proud of their development and accomplishments.  During this time, he also farmed for 18 years.
One fun ongoing project was Harvey’s vision of making his farm, “Hooterville – Green Acres”, an interesting place to be.  Over the years, he gathered and displayed many relics and remnants of the past around the farm.  Many family times were enjoyed in the peaceful prairie stillness.
Harvey had a strong interest in nature.  He planted thousands upon thousands of trees, made countless birdhouses, and was always working on huge flower and vegetable gardens.  In his retirement years, he developed an interest in canning fruits and vegetables.  Lucky recipients always had an abundance of jars in their pantries.
Harvey loved being around people.  He was always on the go to see new places, and interacted with people of all ages.  His quick-thinking and sense of humour often led him into hilarious situations and out of dicey ones.  It seemed that anywhere he traveled on the continent, he made an impression on people, and somebody always seemed to know and greet him.
A huge source of joy for Harvey was his immediate family.  He will be remembered as a doting, generous father to Heather; a fun, lively, and easily-charmed grandfather to Violet, and a helpful, opinionated father-in-law who was also a friend to Lonny.  During the past few years, many trips were made back and forth to Kenora.  Harvey worked tirelessly to help out his family and loved putting his personal touches around their house and properties.
Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Heather Kirkpatrick (Lonny), granddaughter Violet, and another soon-to-arrive grandchild; brother Alfred Walker; sister in law Ruby Walker; brother Wifred (Carol) Walker; sister Kathleen (Alec) Koncz and brother Delvin (Verna) Walker plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Charlie & Martha Walker; sister in law Ellen Walker and brothers Clifford and Leonard Walker.
Funeral Service was held at the Glenella Community Hall on June 29, 2010 with Pastor Leon Gilbertson officiating.  Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa.
