Henry Wiebe Obituary

Passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 94 years.

Henry was born near Morden MB on May 10, 1924 to parents Jacob & Maria Wiebe. Henry was the second of four children; Alvin, Peter and Esther. Henry received his education in the Mountain City School District.

During the second world war, he spent his time as a Conscientious Objector working on assignments given to him by selective services.

He accepted Christ on March 21, 1944 as a result of listening to The Radio Bible Class.

After the war, Henry found employment cutting lumber in Alberta and unloading grain cars in Ontario.

Henry met Mary Wall and they courted for a short time and were married October 12, 1952.

They farmed for most of their married life in Morden, Dominion City, Rossendale & MacGregor. They also ran a restaurant in Carman for a couple years. Henry would supplement the farm income in the winter with working in Winnipeg.

Henry & Mary had two sons, Gerald & Harv. They retired from the farm around 1990 and moved into MacGregor. During his retirement years Henry enjoyed his many coffee shop conversations, helping his boys on the farm, watching his grandchildren play hockey, picking saskatoons, gardening, watching TV sports and politics.

Henry & Mary were very involved at Bagot Community Chapel from its inception, Henry teaching the adult Sunday School for many years.

When Mary’s health began to fail they re-located to Portage. After Mary’s passing Henry enjoyed his last years living with his son Gerald and wife Martha where he was able to enjoy seeing his grandchildren and great grand children on a regular basis.  In the later years, Henry enjoyed reading to the seniors at Douglas Campbell Lodge on a monthly basis and interacting with the staff.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary; brother Alvin; sister Esther and one great great grandson.

Henry will be missed by his son Gerald (Martha) their children Jeff (Tabitha), Ramona (Barry), Nathaniel (Karis), Lauralee (Merle); son Harv (Karen) their children, Dallas (Tara), Dale (Caroline), Dylan (Candis), 21 great grandchildren & 2 great great grandchildren as well as brother Peter and many nieces and nephews..

We as a family would like to express our sincere thanks to the Portage ICU doctors and nurses for the excellent care, Douglas Campbell Lodge, Pastors Mike & Gord, all those who visited the hospital, sent words of encouragement and your many prayers.
