James (“Jim”) Edward Guenter was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, on February 20, 1950 to Jake and Elizabeth Guenter, who shortly thereafter moved to Austin, which would be the family home from then on. The youngest of six children, Jim grew up to be a carpenter and farmer and lived across western Canada and Belize, but resided most of his later years in the Lavenham area. Jim loved garage and auction sales, playing and collecting music, homemade noodle soup and farmer’s sausage, and was undisputed world champion in the Mennonite game. Jim’s greatest pride and joy was his family and while he loved chatting with friends, he loved nothing better than communicating and visiting with his family. In typical fashion, he was heading in to Portage la Prairie to send emails to his family on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 when he suffered a heart attack and passed away unexpectedly. Jim was 68 years of age and we miss him dearly.
Jim is survived by his four children – Steven, Margo, Stanley, and Amanda – and their families, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
