Joan Audrey Henry

            Passed away on November 30, 2019 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Wpg at the age of 74 years.

            Joan was born on February 27, 1945 in Neepawa, Manitoba and was raised in the Orangeville district. She married Cal Henry on October 19, 1961. They lived briefly in Virden, Manitoba but spent most of their lives in MacGregor, Manitoba, travelling and camping whenever possible. They spent many years driving to every rink in Manitoba following their kids’ and then grandkids’ hockey and ringette teams. When they no longer had anyone playing they would pick a team from town to follow for the year. More recently Joan was thrilled to be able to come and watch her great grandson play both hockey and baseball. Joan spent several years working as secretary at the high school in MacGregor. From there she went to work for the Bank of Montreal, working her way up to Branch Manager, the position she held until her retirement in the late 1990’s. She was extremely committed to the community, serving on countless boards and committees over the years (Sprucedale Industries, MacGregor Handi-Transit, MacGregor Minor Hockey and MacGregor Cemetery just to name a few). She kept herself busy in her retirement years doing books and income tax etc. for many individuals and businesses, and going on outings whenever possible with a small circle of very close friends. She loved spending time with her family whenever possible and cherished all her great grandchildren and watching them grow.

            Joan was predeceased by her husband Cal Henry. She is survived by daughter Kelly Sommer (Tamara Hancock {David and Matthew}, and Jody); daughter Wendy Henry (Greg Wicklund {Stephanie, Atticus and Maisie}); son Kevin Henry (Patty, Jill {Kyle, Blake and Olivia}, Shawn, Kolby {Mercedes Stewart}, Kendall {Tanner Hayward}) plus many more that she considered family as well.
