Monica Gogal Obituary

Passed away at Fairview Home in Brandon on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the age of 93 years. Monica (nee Glisinski) was the youngest of 8 children and grew up in the Round Lake, Ontario area.  She moved with family to Schumacher as a young girl, where her parents owned a  rooming house business.  She went to school in Schumacher and worked in the rooming house as well as in a “soda fountain” (restaurant) in Schumacher as a waitress.  During World War II she took a job in St. Catharines, Ontario working in a factory which made armatures for the vehicles used in the war.

Monica met Ben in Schumacher before he went overseas for World War II.  When Ben returned from the War, they were married on October 26th, 1946 in Sturgis, Saskatchewan.

During their lives together they lived in Thunder Bay and Dryden, Ontario where Ben worked in a pulp and paper mill and a mine; Elphinstone and Decker, Manitoba where Ben worked as a Mechanic in a garage, Birnie, Manitoba where they owned a mixed farm and then retired to Snow Lake, Manitoba where Ben worked for a time as a guard at Rod Mine.

Together they had four children:  Larry, Maurice, Marilyn and Joan.

Monica moved to an apartment in Minnedosa in 2004.  She then moved to Riverheights Terrace in Brandon in 2011 and in 2012 she moved to Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon where she lived until her death.

Monica enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her various dogs over the years, fishing, curling, playing cards and bingo, socializing with friends and family and dancing!  Monica loved to dance and have a good time!  She went on many trips back to her original home area in the Madawaska Valley of Ontario where she enjoyed visits with her parents and brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Monica is predeceased by her parents and all of her 7 brothers and sisters; her husband Ben; her grandson Mark Gogal of Snow Lake and her grandson Christopher Gogal of Toronto.

Monica is survived by: Her son Larry Gogal (Sandra) of Snow Lake; her grandson Brad Gogal (Jackie) of Snow Lake, her great grandchildren Jamie Gogal of Saskatoon, SK and Joan Gogal of Meadow Lake, SK; her great grandchildren from Mark Gogal, Sarah Gogal and Ethan Gogal of Pasedena, Nfld. Her son Maurice Gogal (Susan) of Minnedosa; her granddaughter Leah (Martin) Hales of Lethbridge, AB and great grandchildren Carson and Maitlyn Hales; granddaughter Janna (Geoff) Sarazin of Regina and great grandchildren Lily, Nicholas and Alistair Sarazin;  granddaughters  Stephanie Gogal of Winnipeg, MB  Adrianne Gogal of Golden, B.C. and grandson Joshua Gogal of Regina, SK. Her daughter Marilyn (Doug) Wilson of Brandon, MB,  granddaughter Erica (Devon) Evans of Pilot Mound, MB; grandson Ian Wilson (Lindsay) of Winnipeg, MB and great grandchildren, Ben and Mackenzie Wilson. Her daughter Joan Gogal of Prince George, B.C.; granddaughter Alexandria Bastien (Christopher Rowley) of High River, AB and great grandson Hugh Rowley; granddaughter Carly Bastien of Prince George, B.C.

Mass of Christian Burial for Monica Gogal will be held on Monday, November 5th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Snow Lake, MB with Father Paul Bringleson officiating.  Interment of ashes at the Brookside Cemetery, Snow Lake, MB will follow the service.

Friends and family are invited to lunch after the interment.  Lunch will be held downstairs at the Snow Lake Legion.
