We regret to announce that Raymond Benson has passed away on July 9, 2018, at the age of 88 in Gladstone, Manitoba.
Ray was born on Nov 17, 1929 in Derby, England. He was one of 5 children. Ray worked for British gas for his entire working career. After he retired he enjoyed working at the Tramway Museum. He was in the last group of people drafted into the army where he became a cook. Ray married Jean Gates on June 23, 1951. They had two children, Tracey and Leigh.
He immigrated to Canada on April 1, 1991 along with his wife, daughters, and their families; and has made his home here ever since.
Ray loved to tell stories, one of his favorite sayings was “I will tell you a story and it’s true”. Whether the story was true or not was sometimes left to be seen, but either way, they were always interesting, and it made him very happy to be telling them.
He also liked to be working with his hands fixing things or making things. It may have been a dollhouse for his granddaughters and great granddaughters, a Christmas village, or some other sort of woodworking project. He always said he could fix it, or make it fit!
Ray was predeceased by his wife Jean, and all his brothers and sisters. He leaves behind his daughters: Tracey (Kevin) and Leigh (Paul); grandchildren: Terrie (Chris), Philp (Melanie) and Samantha; great grandchildren: Declan, Caitlin, Amea, Quinn and Tanner.
Ray you will be sorely missed. We will never again see you waving goodbye from your door.
