Ronald Jackson Obituary

Life gives us many things that we are not prepare for and on Friday, October 18th, 2019, the unexpected passing of our brother, uncle and friend Ron, caught us all completely unprepared.

Ron was born to Jim and Florence Jackson in Portage la Prairie on January 17, 1945.  He came into this world already having a big sister, Linda and 2 more sisters, Dixie and Barbara would soon follow.  Ron was born to be a farmer.  Raised on the family farm in the North Lakeland District from his early childhood, he lived his entire life on the farm and in the community of Langruth. His home and the land allowed him to pursue what he considered the joys of his life: farming, raising cattle, hunting and commercial fishing off the shores of Lake Manitoba in the winter.  It was a place for him to welcome his friends and family to share his cooking, a cup of coffee and give you a few words of his wisdom on many issues of the day - even when you did not ask.

Ron never really felt the need to leave his home and when he did, he did not travel far. His weekly trips to Portage allowed him to connect with a cousin over coffee or lunch. He enjoyed travelling north to visit his Waterhen family for fishing and conversation.  Once a year he loaded up his trailer to travel to the annual family golf tournament. What he lacked in golf skills and course etiquette, he made up for in providing us with his culinary delights

Although never short on words, Ron was not one to say what family meant to him.  Instead he filled our freezers with meat and our shelves with canned tomatoes from his garden and jars of mustard pickle.   The bottles of grape pic a pop in the spare bedroom for when his nieces and nephews visited and his excitement to share cooking adventures like deep fry turkeys were his expressions of caring.

Ron will be missed by his sisters Linda, Dixie (Dieter) and Barbara (Lloyd) and their families, his Jackson and Carriere cousins.  Also by the Eiriksson family, who were very dear to him and with whom he shared their home in his youth.  Also missing him - his constant companion Pup.
