Aganetta (Agnes) Teichrib Obituary

Aganetta (Agnes) Teichrib (nee Buhler) was born June 12, 1938 to Abram and Aganetta Buhler in the rural area close to Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of six siblings. As a young toddler she moved with her family to the Edrans area of Manitoba in 1942. Agnes took her schooling at the Edrans school until grade 10 and then took grade 11 at Gladstone. After completing grade 11 she attended Elim Bible Institute at Altona for 3 years before moving on to take her nurses training in Steinbach, and Ninette and becoming a licensed practical nurse.

After dating a young gentlemen named John Teichrib from the Bear Creek district for approximately 5 years, Agnes and John were married on June 17, 1961 in the Mayfeld Evangelical Mission Church. This was the church that the Buhler family attended since moving to Manitoba. Their first home was in Steinbach, Manitoba as John was completing Bible Institute Training that year. Other places that our parents lived in their early married years were Plumas, Edrans, two farm properties in the RM’s of Westbourne and Lansdowne, Brandon, and Gimli before returning to the Gladstone area in 1974. John and Agnes lived at the Mayfeld General store for a couple of years before moving to the SW qtr. of 14- 14-12 where they lived from 1977 until their move to Clarkeson Suites in Gladstone in 2019.

Together with Dad, Mom raised 5 children, was a home maker, a secretary for Dad’s business, and involved in various church and parachurch ministries. For many years she taught Sunday School at the Gladstone Christian Fellowship. Mom was also involved in teaching “Discovery Time” at the Gladstone Elementary School for many years. Other ministries that Mom was heavily involved with for many years were Christian Women’s Club and the Gideons International. Recently the ministry that Mom spent the most time and effort with was the Treasure Chest of our community.

Another important part of Mom’s life was music. Though she never played an instrument she was a fine singer and sang in different groups and choirs throughout her life.

Family was very important to Mom. We knew that she prayed for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren daily. Extended family were very important to Mom as well. She had an extraordinary concern for the physical and spiritual wellbeing of many people beyond her immediate circle of family and friends. Mom also practiced the gift of hospitality, she opened her home for lodging and meals to whomever might have a need. She also hosted 3 different exchange students from Iceland and Denmark back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Mom and Dad faithfully attended and supported the Gladstone Christian Fellowship congregation. They also supported a variety of mission agencies and missionaries, because the declaration of the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ was important to them.

Agnes is survived by her loving husband John of 60 years , her daughter Debbie (Bob) Malinowski, son Darrel (Pat) Teichrib, daughter Cheryl (Mike) Nimz, daughter Caroline(Norman) Napoleon and daughter Jacqueline Teichrib.

She is survived by grandchildren Lyndy, Elissa, Odin (Cayla), Teegan (Andrew), Amy (Mark), Cody (Lauren), Emily, Quinn, Jael, Nahum, Azariah, Josiah, Jeremiah, and Josiah Cook. She is also survived by great- grandchildren London, Seth, Hanz, and Winter. She is also survived by her siblings, Jake, David, Kathy Henry, Suzanne and their families. She was predeceased by her grandson Matthew, and great- grandson Calix.

Though Mom loved her husband, her family and her friends deeply, her greatest love was for her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to serve her Saviour by serving and loving anyone and everyone who God brought into her life for however brief or extended a period of time. We are sure that Mom heard the words from her Lord, “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Master."
