Allan Mousseau Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan James Mousseau on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Vancouver General Hospital with Colin and Iris by his side.

Allan was born on September 7, 1957 in Gladstone, Manitoba. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Linda Mousseau Mitchell from Bay Roberts, NFL brothers David (Wendy), Smiley, Curly (Denise), Colin, Iris Carrington from Toronto, Ont, Randy, Joseph, Lenny Roulette and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Allan was predeceased by his grandparents Helen Mousseau and Henry Whitford, mother Esther Mousseau, father Clarence Atkinson, brother Leroy Mousseau (aka 10 cents)

Allan was raised by his maternal grandparents in Amaranth, Manitoba. Having left home at the age of 17, the West Coast (Vancouver and Prince George) became home for over 30 years. Allan was a 2-spirit Anishinaabekwe and was known as “Alicia” to close friends. Jingle dress dancing was a favorite activity when there was an opportunity to dance. Cooking brought great enjoyment and satisfaction to the many people who were fortunate to savor the ultimate Ojibwe cuisine, especially the baked cheese bannock, soups, and desserts. Allan was employed as a cook for the Healing Our Spirit Centre in Vancouver, BC and was a volunteer cook for various organizations/functions in Prince George, BC. In 2000/2001, Alicia was honored with a crown for the Princess XXIII Anishinaabekwe elections by the Greater Vancouver Native Cultural Society.

Allan was a fun and loving person and will forever be remembered for the laughter, humor, and practical jokes that were shared with friends and family. Allan suffered from chronic pain for many years and found relief with medical cannabis.
