Andrew Giesbrecht

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a lengthy illness, Andrew Giesbrecht age 86 of Austin, passed away peacefully.

Andrew was born to Frank & Justina Giesbrecht on June 23, 1931 at the family home in Fannystelle, MB with only a Russian midwife present who spoke no English.

He was predeceased by his wife Esther (nee Link) in June 2017; parents Frank & Justina; brother Martin and numerous brothers and sisters in law from the Link family.

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his children Debra; Joan (Terry); Kelvin (Colleen), Candace (Keith) and Kendall; Cheryl; Carl (Darlene), Kevin (Katelyn), Curtis (Chelsey), Kimberly (Ian), Bryson; Terry (Linette), Clinton, Kayla, Kyle; Dale (Krysta), Matthew, Abbey; sisters Margaret (Peter) Bendictson, Emma (Brian) Butcher; foster sister Ingrid Hiebert; sisters in law Edna Swayze, Alice (Jim) Grierson, Grace Brooks and brother in law Arthur Link as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad started working at age 14, for local farmers and venturing out to Ontario with Cousin John to work in logging camps, railroad and warehouses. When returning to MB he helped his father in the construction business. After Dad married Mom, they lived in Winnipeg till 1962 when they bought the farm in Austin and started Prairie Pride Homes. In 1972 Dad transitioned form construction to full-time grain and dairy farming until 1995.

Dad has enjoyed many years in the Austin Community taking part in the snowmobilers club, hockey, curling and regular trips to Memory Lane coffee shop and the Bakeshop. He loved to go fishing – summer and winter. A visit from his children and grandchildren were always a highlight.

We will miss you, Dad.
