Arlene Nancy (Martin) Metzler went home to be with her Saviour on May 19,2024, at the age of 46 years, 6 months, and 24 days. After a sudden, 3-day stay in the Brandon hospital she passed away peacefully with Jonny holding her hand.
Arlene was born on October 25, 1977, at the Emo (Ontario) hospital. She was welcomed as the 14th child to Walter and Nancy (Shantz) Martin and their happy, busy household. She gave her heart to the Lord at a young age and was baptized into the Pineview Mennonite Church at Barwick, Ontario. In 1996, at Messiah Bible School, Arlene met a young man from Pennsylvania who became the love of her life. Jonny and Arlene were united in marriage on May 30, 1998. They spent the first six years of their married life in PA, helping on the family farm. Their four oldest children were born here.
In September of 2004, following the call of God, they moved into the community at Pine Creek, Manitoba. In May, 2009, Jonny and Arlene (always a farm girl) settled on to their own farm. Eight more children made Mom’s dream for a large family come true. Mom was always surrounded by children. In her younger years, she entertained her nieces and nephews. In her youth, she loved teaching the native children on the reserve. Even after she had her own, her door was ever open to babysitting children. We children treasure the memories of Mom singing and will always remember the countless ways she served us.
She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Jonathan, and 12 children; Laurie, Curtis, (Lorelle), Collin, Leanne, Lilly, Crist, Derek, Dwayne, Danita, Mandy, Alec, and Azriel. She is survived by 9 brothers and 5 sisters: Jane Krahn, Stratton, ON; Carl (Sarah) Stratton, ON; Gary (Faith) Danskin, BC; Lyle (Rebecca) Browerville, MN; Timothy (Donna) Stratton, ON; Judy (Glenn) Heatwole, Hitchens, KY; Dennis (Carolyn) Harriston, ON; Steven (Nettie) Vienna, ON; James (Sharilyn) Cove, OR; Kevin (Joanna) Stratton, ON; Daniel (Loretta) Danskin, BC; Sharon (Darrell) Mine Centre, ON; Eunice (Murray) Martin, Madoc, ON; and Rhoda (Daryl) Meck, Stratton, ON. She will also be remembered and missed by her Metzler in-laws and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nancy Martin, a brother-in-law, Ben Krahn, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Louise (Steiner) Martin.
We, as a family, want to thank everyone for their care, support, and prayers.
