Barbara Buhler Obituary

Barb was born April 30, 1947 to Frank and Sarah Enns at Altona, MB. Most of her growing up years were spent in Hamburg, MB where she attended school. She was baptized on the confession of her faith in 1966.

Barb married Isaac Buhler on April 16, 1967. They started their life together in southern Manitoba. In the first 9 years of marriage, they moved numerous times including two times to Bolivia. After that they had bought land in Edrans, MB and farmed there for 33 years.

For 18 years Barb served alongside her husband Isaac as he ministered at the Rhineland Church. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until Isaac died in 2012.

Barb loved being a homemaker. She was excellent at sewing, gardening, canning, baking and cooking. She was extremely resourceful!

In 2009, they moved to Austin, where she lived until she was admitted into the Gladstone Hospital in February 2025.

Barb was first diagnosed with cancer in 2021. After intense treatments, she enjoyed a few more years without too much pain. The cancer returned in the fall of 2024. She underwent more treatment, but her health quickly declined. During the last months with Mom, we were able to create many treasured memories. We felt an incredible peace surrounding Mom on the toughest days. She intentionally chose to live with a grateful heart. A quote from December, “I have been feeling very calm, even though my health is failing. I have not felt anxious. If I can be at peace with what God has set before me, that is a huge blessing and a gift. ‘It is the Lord who goes before you, He will not leave you; or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’ Deuteronomy 31:8” That was the truth, that carried Mom through to her final breath.

Left to cherish her memory are five daughters and one daughter-in-law. Mary (Dave), Delicia (Shawn), Blakley, Carlissa (Sean), Kelton; Melissa (Kevin); Nettie (Poi), Nakisa, Tausani, Josiah (Emily); Martha (Nathan), Destanee, Shaina, Jaydon, Elaina; Barb (Joel), Robin, Bowen (Kearstin), Rylan, Sierra, Gordon; Susan (Trevor), Tianna, David, Kylie. She is also survived by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She was predeceased by her husband Isaac, her son Isaac, grandson Jireh, her parents and one sister.

We, as a family, would like to thank the staff at Gladstone Health Center, who gave wonderful care to mom over the past 7 months.
