Beverly Giesbrecht Obituary

Beverly Mary Giesbrecht died in peace, on April 18, 2022, in Boundary Trails Hospital near her home in Winkler. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends and the presence of our Lord.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live,..." (John 11:25).

Beverly was born August 19, 1953 in Winnipeg to Jake and Mary Giesbrecht. Beverly's first home was in Starbuck, Manitoba. From there they moved to Winnipeg.

The family lived in Starbuck, Winnipeg and then Linden for the first years of her life. During this time Bev's brothers joined the family; Sheldon, Ivan and Kenton.

In the early 1960's the family settled in MacGregor. During her first 4 years in MacGregor Bev would experience the death of a stillborn brother, Bradley, and a year later the birth of her sister, Beryl.

Beverly completed Grade 12 in MacGregor. She was baptized on the confession of her faith as a teen in the MacGregor Evangelical Mennonite Church. She enjoyed the youth group and choir (Bev sang with a smile on her face). The youth were deeply involved in church life and Bev was as well. She formed good friends and deepened her walk with Jesus through this time.

Bev went to work at the Municipal Hospital in Winnipeg the year she graduated from high school. She lived with her Grandma and Aunts for the year before Bible School and for several summers thereafter.

Bev attended Bible School for two years at Steinbach Bible Institute and graduated in 1974.

After Bible School Bev started a job as a Nurse's Assistant at the Bethel Hospital in Winkler. She lived in the Nurse's residence and there she made dear friends that continued to enrich her life. Bev enjoyed her job at Bethel and later at Boundary Trails.

Bev held the family very dear and maintained a good relationship with our parents. As our parents' health deteriorated, Bev would come home to MacGregor on her days off to care for them. When Dad was in the hospital, she spent many weeks with him in Winnipeg. Later, when Mom moved to Carberry, Bev would come and be with Mom there.

Nieces and nephews were very important to Bev. She would persistently plan for things to do with them and always followed through. Time was spent camping, visiting tea houses, mini golfing, attending Goldeyes games, enjoying Tinker Town, swimming, exploring the Children's Museum and the list goes on.

Bev was a gifted poet and wrote numerous poems celebrating weddings, anniversaries, friendships and poems worshipping God. Reading poetry in public was one of Bev's gifts. She would often compile poems and scripture that she would read with musical accompaniment during a church service.

Bev was also gifted artistically and has shared this gift in the form of cross stitch pictures, handmade Christmas ornaments, decorated birthday and wedding cakes and many beautiful cards.

God enriched our lives by giving us Bev. If you counted Bev a friend, you were blessed. People who have been in hospital when Bev was working, felt her special care and attention. Many who worked alongside her have spoken about how hard she worked, how well she did her job and what a joy she was to work with.

This recounting is too short, but it reflects how our time with Bev was also too short. We will miss her visits, laughter and warmth.

Bev was predeceased by her brother Bradley John in 1963, father, Jake Giesbrecht in 2004 and mother, Mary Giesbrecht in 2010. Bev has left her siblings and their families to mourn, three brothers, Sheldon(Linda),Ivan(Cheryl), Kenton(Sandi), and one sister Beryl (Reynold), 12 nieces and nephews, Nolan (Johanna), Candace (Tyler), Jeffrey (Lyndsey), Stephanie (Jegar), Katie (Todd), Megan (Ben), Jenna (Tony), Angela (Neil), Dustin (Esther), Jamie (Steve), Alexander (Brittany) and Lynette (Jon) and all their children
