Brian Scarrow Obituary

Brian died peacefully at the hospital in Portage La Prairie, MB. with his loving wife by his side on May 12, 2026 at the age of 77 years.

He was born on August 7, 1948 at Russell MB. to Garnet & Muriel Scarrow.

Brian was predeceased by his mother Muriel, in 1968, his father Garnet, in 2009 and step daughter Laurie Long in 2020.

He is survived by his wife Lois, brother Wayne (Barb) Scarrow, sister Kim (Wally) Gero and brother Ross (Michelle) Scarrow, sons Jim (Laura) Scarrow, Roy Scarrow and stepdaughter Bonnie (Gary) Tanton as well as one niece, five nephews, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Brian grew up in Rivers, MB. and was the eldest of four children. After he got married he moved to southern Alberta where he worked for Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District for many years.

In 1980 Brian moved his family to Rainier, Alberta and started his first cow herd. Five years later the family moved to Magrath, Alberta where he continued ranching and raised a few horses on the race track.

In 1995 he helped his oldest son Jim start his own career in the ranching industry and his younger son Roy with his pursuit in rodeo.

In 2001 an 80 acre parcel was bought at Donalda, Alberta.  As well as ranching he bought a highway tractor and travelled to the U.S. hauling oilfield products. Later on another tractor was added and the company began to haul liquids.

In 2016 Brian retired from trucking to move from Alberta to Manitoba with his wife Lois and they settled on an acreage at Pratt, MB.   Brian enjoyed cutting grass, tilling the garden and watching the wildlife coming and going.  He made numerous friends in the community and was always ready for a coffee and a visit.

Brian had a number of health problems which included heart issues and more recently cancer.

Thank you to everyone at the Portage General Hospital for the kindness and care shown to Brian during his stay.
