Catharine Froese Obituary

Cathy or Catherine was born on May 11, 1959, in Marathon, Ontario.  Apparently, there was a lot of lumberjacks and miners in the community, and it made for a good place to live.  Her father died while she was in infancy and her mother ended up being a single mom with four children to raise.  From what I was told the two older ones were nearly adults when they lost their father but still raising four children on welfare would have meant a lot of sacrifice on everyone’s part.  When Cathy was fifteen, her mother passed away, so she was in foster care.  She went to Tech Voc and took Graphic Artist training, then she worked at Winnipeg City Hall for 8 years.  In her senior years at High School, she met Ken Cowdery, and they were married for a period of time.  It was an unsuccessful marriage and Cathy and Lisa moved to Sherbrook and lived in an apartment.  She joined a dating service called the dating place and that is where she met George Froese.  She and George met on February 19, 1984, at 7pm.  She and George were married on June 20, 1987, and eventually Cathy, Lisa and George moved to Pine Creek that September.  Daniel was born June 16, 1988.

We lived there to this day.  I wanted to raise the children with the church being a part of their life.  We went to Edrans Church and learned about the Rock Lake Christian Camp.  There we met a pastor, Jerry Stangard, and was told of how Toronto Vineyard had grown from 200 people to 5000.  I gave Cathy a map of this area and told her to take this to Toronto and have them pray the Vineyards come to this area.  Six weeks later Darrel Ruis started the Vineyards Church in Winnipeg, then Portage la Prairie and Brandon.  Vineyard headquarters decided Toronto should start their own denomination, so they did and it grew to several thousand churches worldwide.  One of them got started in Bagot.  We went there and I felt I needed to do a prayer walk in the Carberry desert.  We did and proclaimed Peace and Prosperity in this area once covered by Lake Agassiz in August of 2000, next year we asked God to protect the waters above ground and beneath ground in the same area.  Millions and billions have been invested in the area covering these things.

Later when my mom passed, Cathy babysat for a year, 3 children all under the age of five while Lisa and Ryan worked two and three jobs just to make ends meet.  With age came knowledge, later they got jobs that paid more with less hours and they could not find people in Portage that were willing to babysit but at first you have to take what you can get.  I know both of them had two jobs and sometimes there were long hours, and no babysitter would work those long hours, so Cathy was able to do that in spite of her challenges.  Daniel at the age of 14, was getting himself off to school every morning.  Cathy would go online and pray for people and saw some marvelous answers to prayer and she later on served at Rock Lake in the kitchen by herself.  She worked all week making breakfast, dinner, and supper for 72 people.

Cathy had a stroke on October 30, 2017, that left her paralyzed on her right leg and she was that way till her passing on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
