It is with profound sadness that the family of Dean Young announces his passing on November 9, 2023 after a well fought battle with cancer. Dean first got sick on November 13, 2022 and the journey to a diagnosis was challenging. He was finally diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma in January 2023.
Dean was born on October 9. 1973 to Glen and Bev Young. Dean had one younger brother, Darryl. The family resided in Austin. Dean loved this little town, choosing to remain in Austin after getting married.
Dean grew up loving all things sports. Playing, coaching, officiating, cheering and heckling.
Growing up, his family loved camping and fishing and he spent much time with family and friends fishing and hunting.
Dean spent many hours following his grandpa, Stuart Young around the farm, leading to a great love of cattle. Dean raised cows on his small farms. It was only a few head of cattle but they were so very important to him and could have been considered his pets.
Dean often talked about his time playing Bison Hockey or showing horses with the Moore Family. Kim would say “it was 30 years ago, nobody cares!” But Dean cared. Those years playing hockey and showing horses were some of the highlights of his life and he cherished every memory from that time.
Dean met Kim in the fall of 2002. He moved in with Kim in December and they were married November 1, 2003. Dean quickly took to fatherhood, fiercely loving his new Daughter Maddy, his little maddykins. Together Kim and Dean welcomed McKenna in 2004 and Dawson in 2006.
Dean loved all three of his children with great passion and was so very proud of everything that they did. Although not a great fan of girls basketball, he tried his very best to attend every game that he could.
Dean coached baseball when the kids were younger and then hockey with Dawson for many years. He was a great encourager of all of his children’s interests, especially when he noticed that Dawson was beginning to love cattle as much as him.
Dean leaves to morn his passing, his loving wife, Kim, children Madison(Travis), McKenna and Dawson. His mother Bev Young and brother Darryl (Diana).
