Earl Jacob Brian Doell, passed away peacefully at home on March 21st after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on May 25, 1951 in Gladstone, MB, Earl was the eldest son of the late Jake and Anne Doell. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sheryl, daughter Kim, son Chris and his grandchildren Carter and Carrington. He is also survived by his siblings, Eileen (Bob) Clarke, Brad (Joanne) Doell, and Edie (Reg) Dodd along with his brother and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl’s 32 year career with CP Rail took him across the Western provinces before retiring in Oliver, BC. After his retirement from CP, he started his own company, EJ Railway Consulting, where he was able to share his knowledge and experience and meet many old and new friends along the way.
Earl and Sheryl spent many winters in Weslaco, Texas where they met many new friends. It was here that he picked up his love of shuffleboard becoming a fierce competitor in weekly tournaments. He went on to be inducted into the Texas Shuffleboard Hall of Fame and he proudly represented Canada at several International tournaments, winning the gold medal in High River, Alberta.
Earl had a lifelong love for sports - as a spectator, coach, competitor, referee and umpire. He also loved fishing, especially at Jan Lake catching pickerel and jack or out on the island prawning and fishing for halibut and salmon. Earl loved to entertain and cook for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all of those that knew him.
