Erna Kopp Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Erna Kopp at the age of 86 years.  She passed away peacefully with her family at her side on November 22, 2021 in the comfort of her own home.

Mom was born in Obory, Poland December 20th, 1934.  She was the third child of Ferdinand and Teresa Witt.  At the very young age of 17th, Mom, along with her family, immigrated to Canada.  She married Herman Kopp on May 7, 1952.  They settled on a farm West of Amaranth, along with Herman’s brother Kristian, and his wife Bertha (Erna’s sister).  In 1962, Mom and Dad purchased a farm Northeast of Amaranth, where she resided until her death.  Life on the farm was not always easy for an immigrant in Canada.  They faced many challenges but always seemed to overcome them.

Mom was a kind, loving person who would do anything for you.  She, along with her children, worked hard on the farm.  Not only did she work outside, but she also worked inside as a homemaker.  She passed this trait on to her children and grandchildren and was always proud of their accomplishments.

Mom was gifted with many talents.  She was a great seamstress, sewing her children’s clothes while growing up, and later sewing her daughter’s wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses.  She also spent endless hours crocheting, knitting, and quilting.  She won many awards at the Fall Fairs for her pieces.  In the summer she was an avid gardener with a green thumb, always making sure her family had enough produce to last the year.  In her spare time, she would spend countless hours working in her flower beds.

Following Dad’s passing, Mom helped her son by taking meals to the field.  She did a lot of babysitting for her family, always looking forward to spending time with them.  She had a special place in her heart for children and animals.  Mom belonged to the Amaranth Seniors Ladies Group, volunteering countless hours for the Club.  Faith was a big part of her life.  She attended the Amaranth Gospel Mission, always looking forward to when the pastor would visit her home.

Erna was predeceased by her husband Herman; her parents Teresa and Ferdinand; sisters Jedwiga and Bertha; brother Arthur, and brother-in-law Kristian.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Julius (Patricia) of Amaranth, daughter Alma (Bill) of Portage la Prairie, and daughter Hilda (Pierre) of Courtenay, BC.  She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren Ian (Cherie), Vicky (Volker), Crystal (Patrick), Stephan (Friend Kristin), Vanessa (Daniel), Amanda (Tyler), Sabrina (Casey).  As well as nine great-grandchildren Noah, Natalie, Jessica, Sarah, Alyssa, Lauryn, Cedric, Emily, and Levi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.  She will also be missed by her dog, Diva and her cat Bella.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 27th, at 2pm at Amaranth Gospel Mission Church with Pastor Jay Foster officiating.  Interment will follow at the Amaranth Haven of Rest Cemetery.  Covid-19 Protocols will be followed.

We little knew that day, God was going to call your name,

In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.  You did not go alone.

For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide.

And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same,

But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.
