Surrounded by the love of her family, Eva passed away peacefully from this life.
Eva was a woman shaped by hard work, deep love, and quiet strength. Born and
raised in Saskatchewan, she grew up in a hardworking farm family, one of seven
children who learned early the value of perseverance, responsibility, and kindness.
Her childhood was filled with stories she shared often, walking many miles to
school in every kind of weather, picking berries, and one fond story of running away
from the “mean goats” that became a favourite. These early years forged the
resilience and determination that defined her life.
As a teenager, Eva bravely moved to Manitoba in search of opportunity. She
worked in Souris before responding to an employment opportunity through Victor’s
uncle, an opportunity that would change her life forever. It was there she met
Victor, and from their very first date on Christmas Eve, their fate was sealed.
Their love story was one of devotion, and unwavering partnership.
Eva and Victor were married on May 30, 1964, and shared an extraordinary 61
years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together,
they built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
Eva was a proud and loving mother to her daughters, Marlene and Lori (Rodel), and
nothing brought more light to her life than her grandsons, Sawyer and Kelbey.
They were the sparkle in her eyes and the joy in her heart. She spoke of them
daily, right to the end, with pride and endless love, cherishing every moment and
memory.
Eva refused to let age or time try to slow her down. Home was where her heart
was, and it was where she found her greatest happiness. We are grateful she did
not spend too long in care, as her deepest wish was always to be at home, surrounded by the life she
had built, animals she adored and the love she cherished.
Hard work was never optional for Eva. Whether milking cows, planting and tending
a huge garden, caring for her beloved flowers, or spending long days canning, she
poured her heart into everything she did. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and
comfort, forever remembered for her Christmas cookies and fruitcake, made with
love and shared generously.
Eva had a profound love for animals and cared for them unconditionally. They were
family to her. It broke her heart to be separated from her beloved “Pumpkin”
when she moved into the care home, a loss that spoke volumes about her gentle
spirit and deep capacity for love.
Eva will be remembered as a woman of strength, kindness, resilience, independence
and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives she
touched, the traditions she passed down, and the love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her loving husband, Victor; her daughters, Marlene and Lori
(Rodel); her cherished grandsons, Sawyer and Kelbey; her sister, Irma; and her
brother, Carl; Carol B, her honorary daughter; and her three special girls, Heather,
Jen and Michelle. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all
who knew and loved her.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date with family and close
friends. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends desire, please donate to Zion
Lutheran Church (Plumas), the Humane Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation
in her memory.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the nurses and staff
at Morley House PCH (Shoal Lake) and Country Meadows (Neepawa) for the
compassionate care and love they have shown to Eva in the last 5 months. Your
kindness, patience, and dedication brought her comfort and meant more to us than
words can express.
“God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So, He put His arms around
you and whispered, “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you
pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped
beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
We will carry your love with us until we meet again.
