Ernie Buhler passed away peacefully at his residence on January 12, 2026 at the age of 83 years.
Dad was born March 3, 1942 near Edrans, Manitoba, the firstborn to Jake & Nettie Buhler. Dad grew up in Edrans on a farm and in 1955 they moved to Sidney for a year. In 1956 the family moved to Austin and dad quit school to start his work career: working for farmers, railroad & survey crews.
Dad met the love of his life, Tina Wiebe, in 1959 and they were married October 29, 1961. They first lived in Winnipeg where their son Marvin was born (1962) and then moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1964. They completed their family in 1968 when Don was born. As the boys grew so did dad’s passion for horses. He usually had a saddle horse and/or a team to pull a wagon or sleigh. If anyone is looking for leather harness, please talk to Marv or Don!
Dad provided for his family by being a long haul trucker which led to him becoming an owner operator. When he wasn’t on the road, he loved taking motorcycle trips with mom. Together they spent many summers in Osoyoos, BC. After they moved to MacGregor, MB in 2001 dad was semi-retired. He worked for local farmers and businesses in MacGregor that allowed him to continue with his love of driving. Time was spent together traveling to Mexico, Hawaii & the Yukon. They also enjoyed camping, fishing and going to garage sales. Dad always said “You hadn’t been to Portage if you didn’t go to MCC”.
Don & dad farmed cattle together for many years. Good times were had butchering chickens, pigs & beef. Many Saturday’s dad would go with Don to auction sales & listen to Marv auction. Dad brought home many a truckload of treasures!
Dad was baptized at the same time as his grandson Kyle, in 2010 at the Westend Community Church.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Tina, his parents and his sister Linda. Dad is survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother. Left to mourn his passing: his son Marvin (Brenda) and their children Cody (Nicole) Nolan, Natalie & Leah; Kyle (Renata), his son Don (Tami) and their children Emily, Karlie & Brody (Melissa). Dad left behind many friends, acquaintances and extended family.
The family would like to thank everyone who took time to call, visit, and sent food to dad since mom’s passing in 2024.
