Freida Eleonora (Hanke) Oswald

Frieda Eleonora (Hanke) Oswald passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone at the age of 105 years.
 

Frieda was born on April 7th, 1918, in Gladstone to Edward & Caroline Hanke. She was the third youngest in a family of fifteen. Frieda was raised on a farm near Waldersee MB.  She remembers her childhood as being very happy.
 

On September 16, 1936, she married the love of her life, Reuben Peter Oswald.  They settled on a farm west of Amaranth.  Here they raised their five children, Donald, Jerry, Patricia, James & Gene.
 

She was a member of the WI (Women’s Institute) and always involved in their annual bake show, where she won many prizes.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and knitting.  She volunteered at Dauphin Bible Camp.  She especially enjoyed getting together for special occasions and gatherings with family and friends.
 

She was a member of the Waldersee Lutheran Church, Canadian Sunday School Mission and the Portage Evangelical Church.
Frieda and Reuben travelled all over North America.  Visited Alaska and Israel.  In their later years enjoyed many bus tours.  They moved to Portage in 1995 and after Dad’s passing she moved to the Regency where she had many friends.
 

She was predeceased by her husband Reuben, son Donald and granddaughter Tara, six brothers and nine sisters.
 

She is survived by daughter-in-law Noreen, Jerry (Terry), Patricia (Kris), James (Marilyn), Gene (Roberta).  Fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.  Plus sister-in-law’s and numerous nieces and nephews.
 

She moved to Third Crossing Manor (Gladstone) January 11, 2022. She participated in many activities while there but especially enjoyed her hair appointment every Wednesday.  She read her Bible and Daily Bread, which was a very important part of her daily routine. She was positive, determined, and showed God’s love to all she met.
