On December 7th, 2020, Garry Barker passed away peacefully in his home in McCreary, Manitoba surrounded by his family. Garry was born July 26, 1945 on the farm in Alonsa, Manitoba – one of five kids to parents Fred and Mearl.
As a young man he learned to work hard, helping out on his family’s farm and later working in the construction industry. In 1967, Garry married Beverly Terrick, and they would go on to spend the next 51 years together raising their family on the farm near Glenella and then retiring together in McCreary.
Garry loved music, particularly the fiddle, and often played to entertain friends and family. In his later years, he took great pleasure in sharing his life’s wisdom with his grandkids and great grandkids, especially when it came to teaching them how to drive. He was a strong and proud man, and just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his last days with strength and grace, spending as much time as possible with the family he loved.
Garry was predeceased by his wife Beverly in 2019; his father Fred; mother Mearl; brother Bob and sister Eleanor. Garry will be forever remembered and missed by his children Randean Pauwells (Garry), Trent Barker (Janette) and Jaylyn Barker (Kenny); his grandchildren Bryce Pauwells, Kayla (David) Hopkins, Brett Hafner, Kurena Hafner, Drake Barker, Dylan Barker, Ethan Barker, Haley Firlotte and Madison Firlote; great-grandchildren Makayla, Rylynn and Aurora Hopkins; sisters Helen Abstreiter and Irene Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
