Greg was the fourth and youngest child of Stan and Phyllis Smith.
He attended Austin Elementary school and graduated from MacGregor Collegiate where he was highly involved in sports and social activities.
Greg and Vicky were married in 1991 after several years of her begging (as he told it) and had four boys of which he was an extremely engaged and proud dad. Curran, Jayd, Jeter, and Zak were truly his pride and joy (most of the time).
In 1996, after living in Hamiota for several years, they moved home to Firdale. It was then he started farming with his brother Garnet and later with in-laws Lyn and Travis.
He was highly involved in the hockey community for many years as a coach, being a part of MacGregor Minor and Central Plains Hockey and more recently as the most loyal fan. He loved playing, watching and coaching sports and always enjoyed joking with his boy’s friends. Besides his family, his true loves were the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Flyers and more recently the Red Deer Rebels, Flin Flon Bombers and Dalhousie Tigers.
He loved all music and was often heard singing a wide range of song choices. It didn’t matter if the artist was male, female, old, young, solo, duet, harmony, he could sing it all. Even though he didn’t always know all the words, whether he was on the boat or in the tractor, he sang it like he was performing on stage in front of a live audience every time.
Other loves of Greg’s include being at the cabin, boating, hunting, and anything Christmas. His present buying, wrapping and cookie making nights will be sorely missed.
All who were close to him will miss his sense of humor the most. He had the ability to talk to anyone and to make everyone laugh.
He is predeceased by his father Stan and mother Phyllis.
Devastated by his loss are his wife Vicky, children Curran (Jacy), Jayd (Hannah), Jeter, Zak (Shae-Lynn), and grandson Howie (and TBA). Brother Gerald (Gayle) and family. Brother Garnet (Elsie). Sister Valerie and family. Many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews in-laws and friends.
