Hazel Lowe Obituary

Hazel passed away quietly on Friday, January 15, 2021, at the MacGregor Care Home at the age of 86 with her children present.  Hazel was born and raised in the Arizona District, the youngest of nine children of Sam and Lottie (Beswitherick) Bickford.  After attending Normal School, she taught in several rural schools before marrying Tom Lowe Jr. of Austin.  They eventually took over operation of the Lowe family homestead just north of Austin and there raised their 4 children.  Hazel was an active member of the community and involved in many community organizations, including the Austin United Church Choir and UCW, Austin Women’s Curling Club, Austin Community Centre and the Museum.  People that knew her appreciated her skills in the kitchen (especially her butter tarts!), her love of music and the positive energy and commitment she brought to everything she did.  She was ‘biscuit gramma’ to her grandchildren and she was a role model to her children.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Colleen (Brian) Leslie and family; son Al (Joyce) Lowe and granddaughters Rachel and Charlotte Lowe; daughter Jennifer Woodward and grandchildren Gillian and Daniel Woodward; son Brad Lowe; sister Mona Bridgen and sisters-in-law Barbara Lowe and Norma (Roger) Lowe and many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends/community.

While Hazel spent the last several years of her life suffering from dementia, her smile, her laugh and her love of music always remained and they will be remembered.
