Janice Anne Leckie

Janice Anne Leckie, daughter of the belated Roy and Annie Leckie and sister of the late Bob Leckie of the Rosehill Community passed away on September 28, 2024.

Janice grew up on the family farm and had her elementary education at Rosehill School.  She went on to MacGregor Collegiate to complete Grades 9 to 11 and continued to Brandon University to obtain her BA in 1967.

Janice’s first job following graduation from Brandon University was with the federal government in The Pas.  This introduced her to Northern Manitoba and its inhabitants.  In 1969 she left The Pas to spend a year travelling in Europe, England, Ireland, and Scotland. On her return to Canada, she worked for Manitoba Telephone in Winnipeg.  An invitation from a friend in Edmonton led Janice to move to Alberta in 1973 – where she remained until 1984 to be closer to her parents and brother Bob and his family.  Back in Manitoba she worked temporarily for Manitoba Telephone, then accepted a job with Canada Post.  Jan stayed with Canada Post until retirement in 2010.

She did as much traveling as possible in holiday time.  In 2010 Janice’s father Roy passed away.  Annie, her mother remained in the MacGregor Personal Care Home until her passing in 2014.  Janice’s brother Bob passed away in 2021. 

Janice lived in Winnipeg, bought a condo in St. James which she sold in 2016.

Janice will be missed by her nieces and nephew Lisa (Emery),  Jennifer (Jason) and Murray.  She will be remembered by her great nieces and nephews Amanda and Keith, Isabelle, and Reid, Shayna, Matthew (predeceased), Samuel and Geena. Her life stories will be shared to her great great nephews  Bryson (Matthew) and Ezra (Reid).

Janice passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, while residing at Calvary Place in Winnipeg. 

A private service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to MacGregor Health Foundation in Janice’s memory, or to a charity of one’s choice.
