Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 at 9:40 pm at the MacGregor Care Home where she resided from February 2018. Mom was 90 years old.
Katherine was born on September29, 1932 in Haskett, Manitoba to Henry and Elizabeth Wieler. She was the first-born daughter in the family of 17 children.
She was predeceased by her husband Jacob H. Giesbrecht and two sons Walter (in infancy) and Bruce G. in 2015, her parents Henry and Elizabeth (4 siblings in infancy) and brothers John, Henry, Jake and Pete as well as sister-in-law Tina Wieler.
Katherine married Jacob H. Giesbrecht on October 25, 1953. They had 54 years together. They married in the Austin EMMC Church when it was still on the Giesbrecht Farm, in the country.
They had 8 children together and she is survived by 6.

Mom and dad moved a lot through the years starting with living with her parents after they got married and then Winnipeg, Morris, Rosenhoff where they had to leave because of flooding after the Great Winter Storm of 1966. They moved the family to Austin except for a couple of short moves to Alberta, they lived in and around the Austin Area.
Mom was a very hard worker. She loved her huge gardens and beautiful flower beds. She did a lot of canning every year. She was an avid recycler long before it was popular. She didn’t waste anything. She handmade her children’s clothes when they were younger and for her daughters well into their teens. She loved to quilt and made many beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working at the MCC Center later in life.
Praying for the family was a priority. We remember often walking by her room hearing our names when she was praying. She also loved to sing. She was definitely the singer at the Care home. They would have to shush her because she was singing hymns so loudly when the other residents were trying to sleep. She witnessed about her Lord at her residence and would ask staff if they were ready to meet Jesus or she’d ask if they had prayed that day. Everyone’s salvation was her mission.
We know she is in a much better place with her Lord and her family that have gone on before her. She’s singing in the Heavenly choir. She can hear again. That is how we want to remember her.
We would also like to thank the staff at the MacGregor Care home who took such good care of her and showed her so much love. It meant so much to our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MCC.
This service will be video recorded and viewable on January 2, 2023.
