Loving Father, Grandfather, Great & Great Great Grandfather, Godfather, Brother, Uncle & Friend.
Dad started his journey home peacefully on Saturday August 5th, 2023 after a brief hospital stay in Portage La Prairie.
Dad, Gramps, as he was affectionately called by his many grandchildren, left so many fond memories and left quite the legacy for his family to cherish.
Dad led a life full of vigor and often showed great strength in everything he accomplished in life. He spent 32 years working for White Mud Water Shed doing various jobs such as, building bridges, brushing bushes. He also worked on local farms in the area. He was also a skilled hunter and trapper.
Dad possessed many talents such as being an avid baseball player, fantastic pool player, skilled hunter & trapper, and a wonderful story teller at that too! Dad also loved his curling.
But Dad also had a passion for fiddling music and dance. He was a Champion dancer of Jigging to which would be one of his greatest accomplishments in life. We would also like to share, that our dad had also briefly served in the Militia.
Dad was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Theresa, Parents Joseph and Alice Demarais, sister Lillian, children, John, Gerry and Lisa Demarais. Grandson Robert Demarais, and several grandchildren in infancy.
Left to mourn his profound passing are his children, Frederick, Darlene, Kenneth, Dennis, Mervin, Viola, Stanford, Darren, Derek, Cheryl and Gerald. Many grandchildren and greats, too numerous to mention but all held a special place in his heart for each and every one of them. Many nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends alike as well.
Along with sister, (Dushie) Isabelle Beaulieu and Brother (Tooks) Barney Demarais (Mona).
The family would like to extend acknowledgement to, and graciously thank the staff of Douglas Campbell Lodge Care Home for taking exemplary care of our Dad for the final years of his life.
While there he was called “Handsome” as he got along quite well with other residents and was known to be quite the ladies’ man, as one nurse had mentioned. Oh Dad, with his million dollar smile.
We will certainly miss that smile Pops, Gramps.
