"Lydia" Mary Lydia (Beaulieu) Malcolm

            It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie and Friend at the age of 69.

            Mom was born on May 11, 1950 to Joseph and Sarah Beaulieu in Sandy Bay, MB. She was the 2nd eldest of 12 children. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Sarah and by her loving husband of 48 years, Joseph Malcolm. Mom and Dad married in 1968 and raised 4 children, Renee, Joe Jr. (Sherri), Harvey (Elana), Wendy (Mike). 10 Grandchildren Lance (Tammie), Justin, Walter, Wendel, Maddie, Michael John, Ethan, Brett, Emily and Avery and our special blessing, Great Granddaughter Joleigh. She was pre-deceased by many other loved ones who will be there to greet her.

            Mom attended Residential School as a young girl in Sandy Bay and as difficult as that was for her it never broke her spirit, in fact it made her stronger. Mom had a pure heart of gold and always opened her heart and home to anyone in need. She was a caring, loving soul who always enjoyed the presence of family around her. She always enjoyed hosting many birthday parties or BBQ’s in St. Laurent.

            Education was always very important to Mom, she went back to school to become a Medical Interpreter and made many special friendships that she still held onto until her passing. She then attended Red River College to take the Indigenous Language program where she was on the Deans Honour Roll. She was a huge advocate in promoting the Anishinabe Language. She taught many young students to speak and write the language. If you wanted to know how to spell or learn how to say something, she was the person to go to. She would often times correct peoples spelling of the language and would correct your pronunciation. She was our greatest teacher.

            As young children, Mom and Dad instilled the Catholic faith in us, we attended Church at Kateri Tekakawitha Catholic Parish where Mom later became the Religious Educator. She taught many young children during mass in the Young Children and Worship program. The relationships our family made with our Church Community has been strong and we our eternally grateful for the love and support they have provided us during this very difficult time.

            Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling and with their love of Hockey this allowed them to visit many places. She made many friendships and remained connected with them as years passed. She always enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in the sports they were involved in.

            Mom had a big family and she loved her siblings and close cousins who were like sisters to her with all her heart. She leaves behind her big Sister Katie, they were inseparable and enjoyed their many visits with one another. They were the true meaning of best friends. George (Debralee), Russell (Sandra), Georgina (Don), Maurice (Josephine), Sandra, Karen, Wayne, Lorey-Ann (Kurt), Vanessa, Shawn and numerous special "sister" cousins. Gitchi-Miigwech to our family who were always there for Mom after Dad passed. She was very lonely but, you helped in so many ways to fill that void.

 Mom also leaves behind her Sister in Laws, Lillian Starr and Doris Flatfoot who she loved dearly and her Brother in Law, Ernest. Gitchi Miigwech for loving Mom as a sister.

            Our home was always a safe haven for our huge family, she opened her heart and home to many and always made sure they were fed and safe. She loved you all as her own.
