Margaret Hildebrandt Bornn was born on January 22, 1926 into a family of 10 children; in Plum Coulee, MB.
On July 4, 2023 she caused a massive celebration in Heaven finally reuniting with her predeceased husband of 44 yrs (Peter Bornn) 3 daughters (Rhonda Bornn in infancy, Eleanor Harder and Valerie Payton), 1 son-in-law (Geoff Payton); her own parents and many of her siblings. She was 97 years of age.
She is survived by 3 sons, (Birnie Bornn, Reg Bornn and Rod Bornn) 1 daughter, (Anita Hopcraft),1 son-in-law (Martin Harder) and their families.
Mom's ability to accept whatever life brought her way including many family changes was remarkable. She never flinched at considering her extended family; as her own. She often commented about all her Grandchildren whether or not they were "blood" Grandchildren. She accepted that life goes on as God planned it. When her eldest daughter Eleanor passed away; Martin was gifted with a new love in his life, Valerie; and Mom came to appreciate her in a very short period of time stating that "she's very good for him-like his right arm!" Mom enjoyed the many hours that Valerie spent with her in the past 7 years. That's just one example of how she chose to see the good in God's plan for everyone's lives.
Mom was a tenacious wife and Mother. If there was a way to fix something she would find it. If there was a way to lay the linoleum flooring in an afternoon while her husband was away, she did it; to perfection! Mom worked from sun up to sun down as a child, teenager, as a farmer's wife with 6 children and never complained. We were surprised to see that she still had the majority of her tongue when we sadly had to make the decision to place her in the care of strangers who quickly became her friends at Third Crossing Manor; because Mom bit her tongue a lot! "Two ears-one mouth" she often said.
Somehow Mom made time to sew beautiful dresses for her daughters every Easter and Christmas during our childhood. Mending, ironing, gardening, chores and cooking were set aside to gift us with her impeccable talent as a seamstress.
Mom's sense of humour rarely revealed itself when we children were young and impressionable as she was busy setting a good example of not speaking foolish words that she would one day have to answer for. (Matthew 12:36) However, it came to be appreciated as she volunteered 16 years at the MCC Thrift Store in Austin, and surfaced again in Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone where the staff would argue over who would give Mom her pills, snacks and meals. She was known for her quick wit, mischievous expressions and comments. All in the name of making someone else smile.
Not until we moved her into TCM did we find out that she sincerely disliked cooking and that was why we ate 12 rotating meals all of our growing up years. "The best part of being in here is that I'll never have to cook again!"
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to all the staff at Third Crossing Manor including their Palliative Care Support and all the faithful family and friends who visited her there.
A special thank-you to the Austin EMMC Church ladies who so willingly stepped up to organize and serve at the luncheon.
Our sincere gratitude is extended to Clark's Funeral home for their patience, kindness and compassion at this difficult time.
We will miss her but our assurance of life after death means that we will only be parted temporarily; thanks be to Jesus our Lord and Savior.
