Marlin McCaskill Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlin Glenn McCaskill, who left us unexpectedly on January 1, 2025, at the age of 58. Marlin was a beloved spouse, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose untimely departure has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Marlin was born on January 2, 1966, in Gladstone, Manitoba, to Glenn and Joyce McCaskill. He was the second youngest of six children. Marlin grew up in Gladstone, where he spent his time working on the family farm and attending school. Growing up, he loved playing hockey, performing in the McCaskill family band, and was never far from any rodeo events. After high school, Marlin went off to the rodeo circuit and spent many years in Alberta but later, moved back to Manitoba and started his family.

Marlin became a father in 1997 to his son, Shane, and again in 2000 to his daughter, Alexa. His pride in his children was evident, and his legacy will live on through the lessons he shared with them. After working various jobs, Marlin found his calling when he completed training to become a Corrections Officer. He began his career in Brandon, Manitoba, where he worked for many years before relocating to Iqaluit, Nunavut, to be with the love of his life, Heidi. Marlin retired from Corrections in 2020, and he and Heidi moved back to Manitoba. Marlin spent the next few years delivering buses throughout North America as a retirement job.

Left to cherish his memory are his spouse, Heidi; son, Shane (Kelsey); daughter, Alexa; stepdaughters, Randi and Jenna; step-granddaughter, Merida; brother, Murray (Linda); sisters, Glenda (Doug), Lynnette (Rod), and Judy. He will also be missed by his aunts, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Marlin is predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Joyce McCaskill; his brother, Ron McCaskill; and his nephew, Dustin McCaskill.

Though his life was far too short, it was filled with love, laughter, and a sense of humor that touched the lives of everyone he encountered. Marlin was known for his musical talent, his love for rodeo, and his many stories, all of which will continue to live on. His presence brought joy to those around him. While we mourn his loss, we find comfort in the beautiful memories he leaves behind and the love he so generously shared.

A celebration of Marlin’s life will be held on January 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Gladstone United Church. Family, friends, and all who were touched by his life are invited to come together to honor his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Marlin’s time on earth was far too brief, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
