Marsha Lasson Obituary

With heavy hearts and in loving memory, Marsha Lasson passed away on June 18, 2020 at the Portage Hospital. With a friendly “hello, how are you” and a smile on her face she courageously battled a number of medical illnesses including cancer. She was a fighter and determined to overcome her struggles. Despite enduring pain and discomfort, she never let her illness stop her from enjoying her flowers, friends and family. Marsha was born in Winnipeg, MB. on May 16, 1947 to Bob and Leila Duffin. She was the oldest of five sisters (Marilyn, Claris, Gwen and Lori) and grew up on a family farm near Lakeland, MB. Marsha went on to complete nursing training and married Joe Lasson in 1968. She was a very caring, dedicated nurse who worked in various roles over the years in Portage, Brandon and Gladstone. In 1974, her first son (Rob) was born. Shortly after, Marsha and Joe moved back to Langruth, MB. to start farming again while Marsha worked at the Gladstone Hospital. In 1976, Marsha’s second son (Bryan) was born. Over the years Marsha and Joe worked to create a beautiful country home and “park” like yard filled with flowers, trees and gardens. It was here that they raised their two sons while enjoying the small things in life. Marsha would spend hours manicuring her yard and was often seen riding her lawnmower or in her flower gardens. Marsha and Joe loved each other dearly as they spent time together walking around their beautiful property. Marsha enjoyed her dogs and cats while appreciating every season on the farm and the wonders of nature. She was a dedicated mother, wife, friend and nurse. She is remembered for her pure, crisp, polished white nursing uniform as she was so proud to be a nurse and help others. Marsha opened her home to new people in the community and to those in need. She graciously and generously gave it all to make other’s lives better. Marsha supported and encouraged her two sons with all interests and endeavours. She was amazingly proud of them for joining the RCMP. Marsha and Joe travelled to all their son’s various work locations. Here she enjoyed learning about the communities they served and meeting all their new co workers and friends. Upon retiring from nursing, Marsha started a hobby business selling cutlery. Marsha and Joe would travel to different venues to market the cutlery where they met numerous new friends. Sadly in 2004, her loving husband Joe passed away. In 2007, Marsha moved from the farm to Portage where she was adopted by a second family namely Clarence and Nicole Spence. Marsha fell in love with their children, Cameron and Liam, and acquired a beautiful relationship. In 2019, her grandson Joe was born. Marsha was so happy to be a grandmother. Her grandson brought special happiness to Marsha during her last few months of life. A true blessing. Marsha always spoke of how she loved her neighbours and how fortunate she was to have them. She greatly appreciated their friendship and everything they did to assist her. Marsha was a beautiful person. Her positive influence and wisdom is felt by so many. She will be missed deeply. Marsha is now reunited with her husband Joe in heaven. Heartfelt appreciation and thanks goes to all the staff at the Portage hospital and specifically to Dr. Finney. Your care and compassion for Marsha was extraordinary.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Island Park (George Hill Drive), Portage la Prairie.
