Martin Thiessen of MacGregor, Mb. passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 88 years and 7 months.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Cathy and their 7 children: Susan (Dennis) Evans of B.C., Mary (Peter) Hoeppner of Carmen, Catherine of Brandon, Jim (Kelly) of Winnipeg, Peter (Donna) of Austin, Martin of Brandon, Helen (Brent) Irwin of Lethbridge, AB. ; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters Agatha (Carl) Friesen of Portage La Prairie, Helen (Jake) Derksen of Winnipeg.
Martin was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Maria Thiessen, three sisters, three brothers, and three nephews.
Martin moved to Mexico in 1952. Here he found his life partner, Catherine Schellenberg and were married in October 1954. In 1955 they moved back to Canada. Martin had several different jobs in Winnipeg and Portage as a stationary engineer. In 1978 they moved to the Austin/MacGregor area starting a new venture - opening up a Bake Shop in MacGregor, and later a restaurant which they sold due to illness.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers and support during this difficult time.
A Come and Go viewing will be held on Friday November 26, 2021 from 4 - 6 pm at the Austin Evangelical Church.
A Celebration of Martin's Life will take place in the Spring/Summer of 2022.
