Mary Belton Obituary

The family of Mary Belton (nee Sadowski) are saddened to announce her peaceful passing on Sunday September 4th at the Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone with family by her side. Mary was born near Pinsk Poland (now Belarus) on October 3, 1930. She was the youngest of six children. When she was seven years old her family boarded the Queen of Bedford ship and immigrated to Canada. They were sponsored by families in Plumas and the Sadowski family moved to a farm just west of town.

She married Frank Belton on February 4, 1950. They raised three children together and created many memories. They lived on the farm in the Marsh until a tragic house fire in 1959. They moved to a quarter section shortly afterwards northwest of town until Frank became ill. The family moved from the farm into town in 1972. Mary moved to Centennial Apartments in Gladstone in 2001 and into Third Crossing Manor in 2018 until her passing.

Mary loved her garden, her flowers (she definitely had a green thumb) and her hummingbirds and loved to cook for her family. She loved camping and made many special friends during her camping days. She was an avid curler and played baseball in her younger years. She adored her grandchildren and would do anything for them. She would often be seen attending their sports events. She was an active member of the Plumas United Church, the Curling Rink, the Legion Auxiliary and had many fond memories of their times together.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank, her daughter Patty and her special companion Pete Pubben. Also, she was predeceased by her mother Oksenia, her father Nikita, her sister Olga and brothers Colin, John, Mac and Steve. Her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws from the Belton side of the family have sadly also all passed. She considered many of them to be close family.

She is survived by her son Bryan Belton (Brenda), her son-in-law Dwight Ferguson (Val) and her son Barry Belton (Wendy). Her grandchildren Jason (Nicole), Brandi (Darcy Patrosh), Melissa, Matthew, Reese and Logan. Great grandchildren Arthur and Leo. Mary had many nieces and nephews as well and they all meant a lot to her. Left to also mourn her passing is her lifelong friend Mary Gravel. They had a special bond that lasted more than eight decades.

We would like to thank the staff of Third Crossing Manor. We were truly blessed to have you look after our Mom and Grandma these past few years. A special acknowledgment also goes to Val for your caring and compassion. Your friendship later in life truly meant a lot and Mary was fond of your many visits.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to a charity of one’s choice.
