Mary Anne Wiebe Obituary

Mary Anne Wiebe (nee Toews) was born February 20, 1950 to Peter and Anne Toews in Winkler, Manitoba as the second oldest of 9 children.

She spent the first 12 years of her life in Lowe Farm, MB before moving to the family farm near MacGregor, MB in 1962 where she met her future husband Abram Wiebe. After getting married on October 19, 1969 they moved only a short distance north of the tracks to the J.P Wiebe Family Farm. In 1978 they built their dream home where they raised their 4 sons and resided there until moving to MacGregor in 2016.

In her early years you could often find Mary Anne in the garden picking peas with her siblings and doing various chores around the farm. Before getting married she worked two different jobs in Portage la Prairie; at the Richelieu sewing factory and at Manitoba Developmental Center. In June of 1969 Mary Anne was baptized at the then Bergthaler Church in MacGregor. After having the boys, she started to volunteer at the MacGregor Elementary School where after a time this turned into a full time job as an EA. Mary Anne very much enjoyed her time at the school and developed a friendship with many of her co-workers. Although trying at times, she loved the kids that she got to work with and even enjoyed learning sign language to assist one of the many children she helped.

Other things that you could often find her doing were cooking or baking, hosting, spending time in her garden or watching different birds come to her feeders. Her most treasured moments were with her beloved grandchildren with activities such as shopping, packing shoe boxes, crafts/ activities and eating ice cream.  Each summer she would find great joy in gifting the family with a week together in Clear Lake where many memories were made.

Mary Anne did struggle greatly at times with anxiety, but through prayer and with support from Abe, family and friends, although not always easy, she was able to come through and carry on.

Mary Anne was predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 infant brother, 4 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, and 3 nephews. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Abe. Her 4 sons; Randy (Twylla), Regan (Jeffrey) Holm (Samuel & Elenore) Rachel, Rebecca (Jesse) Wiebe and Riyan. Kevin (Melissa). Steve (Linda), Ember, Thomas and Jillian. Brent (Sarah) Sloane and Quinn. Her 3 brothers, 5 sisters, 8 brothers-in-law, 11 sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Anne passed into the arms of Jesus on the evening of February 23, 2026 at the Portage District General Hospital with her family at her side. We would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics who cared for Mary Anne in her final hours. The family would especially like to thank our devoted home care workers, Kathryn, Victoria, Clivia, Jess, Angela and Hannah who lovingly cared for Mary Anne in the last year as her health declined.
