We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother and Grams on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, MB.
Mom was born on August 5, 1925, at Portage la Prairie to parents Ed and Mamie Chant. Along with her sister Marion she was raised on her parent’s farm in the McAulay district. She attended McAulay Elementary School and high school was completed at MacGregor Collegiate. Following high school she became a Permit teacher at Springbrook School near Austin. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Fred, her sister Marion and her parents.
In 1946 Muriel married Alfred (Fred) Snaith at the Chant family farm. Following their marriage, they resided in MacGregor and raised their 2 children – Janice (Allan Bush), and Jim (Joanne/nee Kasprick). Muriel has 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
During the first years of married life Fred helped Muriel manage the Co-op store in MacGregor. In 1960 they purchased a locally owned general store, worked together and ran Snaith’s limited until retirement. Post retirement they enjoyed many years as snowbirds in Texas. They had many friends both south and north of the border.
Mom loved doing anything with her hands, gardening, crafting, sewing, floral arranging and oil painting. We are all very fortunate to have her art hanging in our homes. She and Dad loved to play cards, there were many boisterous evenings spent around the card table with friends and family.
After mom lost her life partner in 2008 she moved to Brandon to be closer to family. She met and made many friends in Village Green and could be found enjoying afternoon coffee and many laughs with many of them at McDonalds. She could tell a great joke and keep the conversation going. We are so thankful to her friends from Village Green.
A Private Family Service will be held.
We will miss you Mom, and Grams.
