After a well fought battle with cancer, Rick passed away October 17, 2023, with family by his side.
Richard Allen Goertzen (Trooper), was born May 31, 1958, at the Gladstone Hospital to George & Anne Goertzen.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, George & Anne Goertzen, brother Cam Goertzen, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Left to mourn are his wife Tammy, father-in-law Ken Rozell, Sons Travis & Ricky (Melissa). Siblings Ron, Sharon (Rick), Gary (Loretta), Patti (Dean). Step siblings Tracey, Susan and Brad. Grandkids Jesse and Morgan. Stepchildren, Jerry, Michael and Helen. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and extended family.
On March 26, 2022, Rick married the love of his life, Tammy. Together they lived in their cute little farmhouse on the Helston Road for many years, along with fur baby Snowball.
Rick attended Silver Stream School from Grade 1 – 5; William Morton Collegiate from Grade 6 – 10.
After high school Rick ventured up to the Duck Mountains to work for his Uncle Vern at Mountainview Logging. His next job took him to Winnipeg for a short time where he worked alongside his brother Ron at New Flyer Industries. Being a country boy and farmer at heart, Rick moved back to Gladstone to work with family at the Feed Mill, and then he followed his passion of farming to work for the Ferguson’s, who became his second family. He continued to work for the Ferguson family for 40+ years until his retirement.
Rick had a great sarcastic sense of humor and was always quick with a joke or a story. He enjoyed hunting, socializing with friends and family during hunting season and showing the new hunters how to hunt the right way.
In honour of Rick, dress is casual - wear your jeans, plaid shirts, camo or hunting attire.
