Timothy "Tim" Maendel Obituary

TIM MAENDEL

OCTOBER 19, 1963 – JUNE 17, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tim Maendel. (Dad, Brother, uncle & friend to many) He is survived by his two sons Paul, George (Ellis) grandson Silas who was the sparkle of his heart. Siblings, (Margret), (Susie), (Clara), Myra (Simon), Barbra, Judy (Sam), (Sarah), John (Tina), Helen (George), Kathryn (Paul), Joseph (Thelma) and Sara-Ann (Evan); many nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family takes great comfort in the knowledge that Tim has gone to be with Jesus. Tim was welcomed to his Heavenly home by his parents, Sam and Rachel; brothers, Sammy, Elie, Lorenz and Steve; brother-in-law Willie. Tim received Jesus Christ as his personal savior in his teenage years. To set an example for his sons, he committed himself into baptism at the Christian Life Centre in Morden. Tim very much believed in Jesus and prayers, and he always said he wouldn’t have reached this age without living each day in prayer and with the supportive prayers of many others.

Tim was born the eleventh of 13 children to Sam and Rachel Maendel in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. In 1972, Tim moved with his family to Pine Creek Colony near Austin, MB. He worked very hard as a young boy helping start up the family colony until he was 16, then he moved to Portage la Prairie to start his mechanical/welding career working at McCain Foods. Tim always told everyone it was at McCains where he discovered his passion for mechanics and fabrication. Tim had an amazing ability to repair or fix any vehicle, motor or large equipment.

To all those who knew Tim, knew he specifically had a great love for Semi-trucks (that’s where he got his travel bug from). Tim loved driving truck across the country. It was very fair to say Tim loved all his adventures and long-haul road trips that would take him across Canada and USA. He so loved driving all over the countryside, first it was by studying maps and then he upgraded to GPS. Tim was very knowledgeable when it came to travel, you just needed to tell him where to go and he would figure out how to get there. Many of his career miles he hauled oversized/overweight loads “He LOVED the challenges of those loads”. He could spend many hours talking about all the miles he made, all the road and town details and about all his travels. It was during his trucking career that he met many good employers and made many friends.

Tim had an amazing work ethic, and he was so proud of his mechanical and trucking careers. Tim also loved hunting with family and then cooking amazing meals for everyone to enjoy. Tim was an amazing cook and put creativity and passion into each and every meal he made. It was something he really enjoyed doing as it usually involved spending quality time with friends, his sons, his sisters/brothers and more than a few nephews. He especially enjoyed time with his great-nephews at the farm who he usually convinced to help him with the cooking, cleaning up or even bathing/grooming his pup, Lady.

Tim had an amazingly "Big Heart" and loved his boys and his family with his entire soul. His sisters Kathy and Barb being a true grounding force for him over the last few years. Tim's kind heart, generosity and loving nature will never be forgotten, whether it’s helping friends/family that need help fixing something or hauling loads. We will miss your calls, messages and most importantly we will miss your meal visits with Sister Barb at the farm.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Austin Evangelical Mennonite Church. Interment will be at Edrans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, our family would like you to honour Tim by helping someone with a task or have coffee or share a meal with family or a friend; because that's who Tim was.

Tim, thank you for setting a great example of how to live our lives,

to always be humble, kind, and caring to others.

Rest in Heavenly peace
