Tina Fehr Obituary

On November 27, 2020, our Mom, Tina Fehr passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, at the age of 92.

Mom was born on December 20, 1927 at McMahon, SK, to Cornelius and Anna (Wall) Friesen.  She was the second of 6 children.  While in her teen years, her parents and family moved to the Gladstone/ Muir district in Manitoba where they farmed.  When her young sister Anne was hospitalized in the Winnipeg General Hospital (now known as the Health Sciences Centre), Mom went to work there in Housekeeping so she could spend time with her sister until her passing.

On April 26, 1953, she married our Dad (George Fehr) at Gladstone, MB.  Together they raised their 4 children.  They were married 54 years until his passing on Sept 9, 2007, at the age of 84.

They spent their married years farming until retirement.  After retirement, they moved into Gladstone, and later into Portage la Prairie.

Mom loved animals, enjoyed gardening and baking.  She spent most of her years caring for people in one capacity or another.  For 15 years Mom & Dad opened their home to foster children.  During that period, a total of 34 children, ranging from ages 10 months to 14 years, came to live with them, often in family groups of 2 or 3 children.  Some placements were temporary, some for as long as 2 years.  Mom enjoyed caring for the foster children.  She always hoped that by giving them a good home while in their care would make a difference and be a positive thing in their lives.  Decades later she would still think of them and wonder how they were doing.  She was also dedicated to caring for her parents and our Dad during his many years of ill health.

She was always there for her family, no matter what that entailed, and we could count on that.  She was kind, compassionate, strong and determined, and had an unwavering faith in prayer.

She enjoyed playing board games, at first with her own children, then with her grandchildren and later with friends.   In her later years she spent many hours working on jigsaw puzzles, reading, and completed many Word Search books until it finally became too difficult for her.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, all 5 siblings, and one granddaughter. She is survived by her 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 1 brother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
