Frank Guenther

September 23, 1929 ~ August 8, 2015 (age 85) 85 Years Old
On August 8, 2015 Frank Guenther from Austin MB passed away peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital with family by his side, went to meet his Lord and Saviour.
Dad was born in Aberdeen Sask on Sept 23, 1929 to Jacob and Barbara Guenther. He was one of fourteen children.
Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith on May 28, 1950 in the Bergthaler Mennonite Church.
Dad married Mary Reimer October 5, 1952 in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at St. Laurent. MB.
Dad is survived by his wife Mary of 63 years, 10 months and 3 days. They were blessed with 5 sons and 2 daughters. Jake (Anne), Pete, John (Margaret), Bill (Shirley), Cornie (Trudy), Esther (Ken) and Helen.
They have 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters Helena Peters from Kentucky USA and Nettie Neufeld from Warman Sask. Dad was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and seven sisters.
Dad was a man of many gifts. As well as farming land in ST. Laurent with his wife Mary, he worked for Nelson Rivers on Road Construction.  It was with a heavy heart he sold his farm and moved to Austin MB to be closer to family and friends who had moved there before them. There he made a home for mom and him working at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum at Austin. It was a job he loved; he got to work on all the old machinery and many misc jobs. One of his great joys was run the Saw Mill and had the opportunity to run the Saw Mill at the Forks in Winnipeg for a week to do Historical repairs. He was always an active man who loved to go for daily walks. On his 80th birthday he got up early and jogged around town just to prove to himself that he could.
Dad was a quiet man and had many struggles in life. In 2000 he had a brain tumor which caused him loss of eyesight and loss of hearing. Through all this, Dad never complained and found new ways to enjoy his life.
Many days when we would go visit, dad would be reading his Testament. He loved going to see his children and grandchildren.
The last two years were very hard for him, poor circulation in his legs led to loss of mobility. He broke his first hip on Dec 25, 2014. After 1 month and 1 day in the hospital Dad was home and recovered well.  Then in March 2015 he had to have surgery to improve the circulation in his leg. Once again dad recovered and came home. The surgery in his leg lasted 3 months. He was to have surgery again but in the meantime broke his other hip. Dad went for hip surgery again on July 22. Dad came through the surgery and was doing well, but God had other plans for him. He took a turn for the worse on Saturday Aug 8. He went peacefully to meet his Saviour at 8:25 pm with his wife and family by his side.
Dad’s one wish was that all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren love and continue to follow the Lord Jesus so we can be part of that great reunion when we all meet our Savior.
